Research Summary and Profile

Research interests:
Classics
Summary of research interests and expertise:

I am an Ancient Historian interested in Roman financial history and economic mentality. My research revolves mainly around the interactions between Roman law, economic theory and performance. My publications and projects focus on auctions, economics of information, the real estate market, art and status markets, ethics and economic behaviour, and the framework of economic decision-making and value creation in ancient Rome. I also work on the reception of antiquity in modern visual media. I am UK PI of the AHRC/DFG international project Twisted Transfers: Discursive Constructions of Corruption in Ancient Greece and Rome (2020-23). This collaborative project uses identifiers from the social sciences and anthropology to investigate and understand why and how certain forms of transfers of material and immaterial things were presented in discourse as acts of corruption that challenged normative values and ideals of correct behaviour.
