I am interested in the history of family, and in particular the history of adoption in the United Kingdom across the twentieth century, which I have written about in some detail. I have also done considerable research on the history of education in the twentieth century, having worked for several years on a major project about the development of history teaching in England.

Research projects:
Details History in Education Project Three year research project looking at the development of history teaching in English state schools across the twentieth century which was completed at the beginning of 2012. It was directed by Professor Sir David Cannadine and the co-researcher was Dr Nicola Sheldon. Resulted in book 'The Right Kind of History: Teaching the Past in Twentieth-Century England', conference and website.

01-Jan-2011 ‘The Right Kind of History’ History in Education Project Conference, November 2011 Organised this conference to launch the book 'The Right Kind of History'. Speakers included the Secretary of State for Education, (Michael Gove MP), plus various former education ministers, teachers and academics. Also co-presented a paper on the History in Education website
