About

The Bibliography of British and Irish History (BBIH) is an essential tool for the study, research and teaching of British and Irish history.  It is the largest and most comprehensive guide available to published writing on the history of British and Irish relations with the rest of the world, including the British empire and the Commonwealth, as well as British and Irish domestic history from 55 BCE to the present day.

The Bibliography includes books, journal articles, book chapters, collective volumes, theses and online resources. It is updated three times a year (usually in February, June and October) and now includes over 600,000 records.

BBIH is a research project of the Royal Historical Society (https://www.royalhistsoc.org), the Institute of Historical Research (https://www.history.ac.uk/) and Brepols Publishers (https://www.brepols.net/). It was also a partner in the consortium of European Historical Bibliographies (https://www.histbib.eu/).
