Literature from the 1930s to the present day;  the relations between reportage and imaginative writing, particularly during and about the 'long' second world war; the role of literary journalism and other aspects of literary production;  the English literary establishment;  C20 Spanish literature and history.  

Project summary relevant to Fellowship:

 Current project a Leverhulme-funded study of the work of John Hersey (1914-93), author of 'Hiroshima'.
