- Project summary:
The Small Grant from the Wellcome Trust is required to expand the reach, impact and legacy of the Being Human festival of the humanities (12-22 November 2015). The grant will be used alongside existing funds from the School of Advanced Study (SAS), the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and British Academy to fund creative programming which engages Front page non-academic audiences with leading research in the humanities via a nationwide programme of free events. More specifically, the grant from the Wellcome Trust will be used to fund a strand of commissioned programming working with the Being Human festivals regional hubs. These hubs will be situated in five universities across the UK, as well as a London hub at the School of Advanced Study. Each hub will be given the challenge, and incentive, to produce an activity or strand of programming focusing on an aspect of the medical humanities - connecting these to contemporary debates around public health, the ethics and history of medicine, nutrition, lifestyle, social connectedness, values and other matters of national concern.
