Project summary:
From the late 1960s the ICS held the SSASS; the series ran until 1993 and was launched and hosted throughout its life by Professor Shula Marks. The Series was central to informing a generation of scholars, researchers and students on the rich and complex history of Southern Africa. At the time this was a radical project, with little research and investigation beyond a few scholars, while in South Africa historical research on African societies, resistance and communities was practically non-existant. The ICS has digitised the entire Series, providing the academic and research community with an extraordinary resource.
