Directory of Research and Expertise

I am researching the desire to collect and preserve erotic literature in nineteenth century England, focusing primarily on the collecting and preservation activities undertaken by members of The Cannibal Club (an exclusive branch of The Anthropological Society of London) and The Philobiblon Society. A significant amount of research has been conducted on the trade and censorship of erotica and of the people involved during the nineteenth-century. Conversely, there is a growing body of research on collectors during this period, but there is little overlap between the two. I aim to bridge this gap.
